The Minerva Group

Clarity before communication.

The Minerva Group helps leaders turn complex business challenges into clear narratives, intentional communications strategies and measurable outcomes.

Work With Minerva
Who We Work With

Two worlds. One discipline.

Minerva works at the intersection of business strategy and public narrative — connecting companies to culture, whether that story is unfolding in a boardroom or on a festival stage.

Tech & AI Companies

Building the future, fast.

Venture-backed companies introducing AI into their business, navigating rapid growth, or facing a moment where the story hasn't caught up with the business. Strategy-first counsel for founders and communications leaders who need the narrative to move as fast as the product.

Consumer & Cultural Brands

Showing up in culture.

Brands stepping into festival activations, artist partnerships and culture-forward campaigns who need the strategy behind the moment, not just the moment itself. Positioning and narrative work grounded in the same discipline — tied to business priorities, not just buzz.

DRAG™the cost of complexity

Communications Drag™ — the hidden cost created when communications activity grows faster than strategic clarity.

It's a natural consequence of growth and complexity, not a failure of the communications team. A product launch disconnected from the sales narrative. A festival activation that generates buzz but no measurable shift in brand perception. Agency spend drifting from current priorities.

When teams can't clearly articulate why they're communicating, who they're trying to move and what needs to change as a result, time, money, talent and attention get diluted instead of directed.

Most communications teams don't have an execution problem. They have a clarity problem.

The Value Proposition

Strategy first. Communications second.

Clear positioning. Compelling narratives. Intentional strategy.

Clarity

Every engagement starts with the objective, not the output.

Narrative

Positioning and story built to move the audiences that matter.

Outcomes

Strategy measured by business impact, not activity.

The Minerva Group helps communications leaders reduce Communications Drag, redirect resources toward the work that matters most, and build strategies they can demonstrate are driving business outcomes.

When Minerva Can Help

Tactics aren't strategy.

Why

are we doing this?

Who

needs to move?

What

needs to change?

  • — The business has evolved, but the story hasn't.
  • — Your founder or executive needs a stronger point of view.
  • — Your communications team is busy but lacks strategic direction.
  • — You're introducing AI, innovation or another complex idea stakeholders don't fully understand.
  • — You're navigating transformation, scrutiny or reputational risk.
  • — Everyone has an opinion about what you should say, but no one agrees on what you're trying to accomplish.

That's usually where we come in.

The business has changed, the story hasn't caught up, leaders need greater clarity, or communications activity has become disconnected from strategy. Minerva helps create the foundation before teams invest more time, money and attention in execution.

The Difference
We don't start with

"What should we say?"

We start with

"What are you trying to change?"

We don't measure value by how much content we produce. We measure it by whether leaders have greater clarity, organizations have stronger alignment, audiences understand what matters, and communications advances the business objective it was designed to support.

Representative Experience

Experience matters when the answer isn't obvious.

Amber C. Johnson

Founder & Principal

Twenty years advising leaders through complexity, transformation and reputation-defining moments.

Amber is a strategic communications executive and advisor whose career spans Google, YouTube, the CIA and Under Armour. At YouTube, she led executive communications for the company's Global Head of Music, shaping leadership voice at the intersection of music, culture and technology — alongside communications for YouTube's AI and product innovation work. At Google, she advised leaders through the pandemic, workforce transformation, societal issues, return-to-office strategy and generative AI. At the CIA, she built strategies to humanize a complex institution within extraordinary information constraints. At Under Armour, she led corporate communications across reputation, public affairs and sustainability.

She founded The Minerva Group around a simple belief: the best communications strategies don't begin with what an organization wants to say. They begin with what the organization needs to accomplish.

About

Wise counsel for complicated moments.

The Minerva Group was founded by Amber C. Johnson, a communications executive and strategic advisor with 20 years of experience helping some of the world's most influential organizations communicate through change.

Across Google, YouTube, the CIA and Under Armour, Amber has advised executives through technological transformation, cultural change, organizational disruption, reputation challenges and moments when there was no obvious playbook.

Those experiences shaped Minerva's philosophy: communications should never begin with the tactic. Before deciding what to say, leaders need clarity about what they're trying to accomplish, who they need to move and what success should look like.

Because when everything feels urgent, the most valuable thing a communications advisor can provide isn't more activity. It's clarity.
